Don’t Wait For Inspiration – Do It Now

Sometimes in order to get the energy to do the thing, you just have to do the thing! One of the biggest traps we can fall into is overcomplicating matters in our own minds. This article is a reminder to get out of your own way and just get started.

Case in point – for years I wanted to correct an issue I had with my bite (misaligned jaws, teeth out of position, etc.). The more I thought about it, the more I thought myself out of it. Years went by. Ever been there? Finally in November of 2015 I decided to just do it, and booked an appointment to become ‘adult braces guy.’ Yesterday I finally got my braces removed (yeah!). I’m so glad I did it, and like many who’ve ever delayed an obvious decision, I wondered why I didn’t do it years ago.

Writing this article is another example. Simpler. All I really wanted to do last night was watch TV. But I hold myself accountable to weekly writing, so rather than live in my own head and torture myself as to how long it will take, how tired I am, etc. I just picked up the laptop.  And boom – the article starts to flow.

Analysis paralysis stops many of us from moving forward, on things big and small. Don’t wait for things to be perfect – there’s never a good time to start a business; break up; get back to the gym; decide on a new career. You just have to get the ball rolling. And once you have it rolling you already have a critical weapon in your arsenal – momentum. Build upon it day after day and you’ll be ‘doing the thing’ before you know it.
